2025 On-property Ram Sale Report
The 2025 on-property ram sale was conducted on Thursday 25th September by AWN and Kevin Miller Whitty Lennon & Co. The sale offered 100 rams, with 72 sold for an average of $2,253. A good percentage of the remaining lots sold immediately after the sale.
The top priced ram was Lot 21, Rocklyn 240720, which sold to newcomer, Mark Blaxland, from Blaxland Poll Merinos, Tamworth, for $6,250. The 102kg, triplet-born ram had fleece measurements of 17.8 micron, 2.5 SD, 14.2 CV and 99.6 CF. He ranked in the top percentiles for a range of carcase and fleece traits including YCFW 30.1, YSL 18.6, PWT 9.1, YWT 11.0 all in the top 20% and YFAT 0.4 and WP Index of 186 in the top 10% and a SM Index of 150.
Mark Blaxland said he had been watching the Rocklyn rams for some years and had noticed the good genetics, which aligned with what he is trying to achieve. “The big bodies, good carcase and bold, crimping wool that’s getting finer ticked all the boxes,” Mark said. He was especially impressed with 240720 - his first choice ram - because it was a triplet but was still one of the heaviest rams in the sale. The ram will be used in their split-joining operation with 1,250 ewes.
The second-highest price of the day was $4,750, paid by regular top-end bidder, TH Cooper & Co of Caragabal. TH Cooper & Co bought 10 rams under the hammer plus another two, averaging $2,971.
Other volume buyers on the day included McKellar Pastoral Co with 13 rams to $2,500, averaging $1,623, Greendale Family Trust with six rams for an average of $2,817, SH Robertson with eight and Warralong Pastoral Co with eight.
The top-priced ram at the 2025 Rocklyn ram sale came with added benefits. The ram had been selected as the stud’s charity lot in support of the Peter Westblade Scholarship. Rocklyn is a regular supporter of this cause, with stud principal Ralph Diprose proud to be contributing to the PWS Stud Fundraiser and donating 30% of the proceeds of Lot 21.
While Ralph had not predicted the ram would make the highest price, he had selected it as a well balanced ram that would ‘donate a bit of money to the fundraiser’.
